Who We Are

MITRE works with the Federal Aviation Administration to provide the safest, most efficient aerospace system in the world and to meet the evolving needs of the nation's airspace.

We have supported the FAA's mission for over 50 years and operated its FFRDC since 1990. Currently, CAASD works closely with the FAA to develop NextGen—the next-generation air transportation system. NextGen will open America's skies to continued growth and increased safety with reduced environmental impact.

CAASD provides the FAA with advanced technical capabilities in systems engineering, mathematics, and computer science. We also apply in-depth domain knowledge in air traffic management and airspace user operations relevant to the National Airspace System (NAS). Our laboratories offer specialized simulation and computer modeling capabilities to evaluate a broad spectrum of NAS systems and operations.

These services are the critical link between existing and future air traffic control systems. They support the FAA's ability to develop new programs to meet operational needs.

CAASD also performs work for international civil aviation authorities, airport operators, airlines, and other aviation organizations to enhance air traffic management worldwide.

We share our expertise by offering training to help aviation professionals throughout the world stay on the cutting edge of their field and work in harmony to meet future global aviation challenges.
