Our Mission
The Health FFRDC drives solutions to our nation’s most urgent health challenges. We work to create a healthier nation through the development of innovative capabilities and approaches that can speed the adoption of commercial solutions that improve the quality, efficiency, and effectiveness of health and healthcare services, and empower people to better manage their own health and well-being.
Our Impact
As operator of the Health FFRDC, MITRE combines technical expertise, our unique relationship with government, and a broad understanding of the health ecosystem to bring solutions to the nation’s current health challenges. We also look over the horizon for emerging challenges to anticipate needs and develop prototype solutions and approaches that are ready when new needs arise.
MITRE can take challenges that government or others have identified, as well as a spark from statute or regulation, and create solutions that equip federal leaders with insights to make decisions, operationalize programs, and engage the private sector to transform health and human services.
Our Work

Enabling Informed, Rapid Policy Decisions
MITRE’s conflict-free role with HHS allows us to provide analysis on complex health issues, including coverage, chronic disease, and children’s health, informing policies that impact Americans and trillions in health spending.

Empowering Patients, Clinicians, and Researchers
We empower millions of patients and clinicians to make informed care decisions by pioneering new technologies that enable sharing of health data.

Advancing Chronic-Disease Research
We enable researchers to better understand and address root causes of chronic disease by linking clinical and community data.

Enhancing Access to Life-Saving Medicine
We help Americans access life-saving treatments by prototyping software and building communities, while mitigating potential adverse side effects.

Using AI to Improve Service and Reduce Costs
We enhance the efficiency and reduce the cost of federal activities— from public health policy to determining coverage decisions—by evaluating ways agencies can use AI.
